This year, Mardi Gras is coming up fast — the end of February. Residents of Opelousas are gearing up for the longtime Louisiana tradition of going all out for Fat Tuesday. Here’s a few recommendations for joining in the fun.
Celebrating at the local Delta Grand Theater means you don’t have to drive far. For just $5 at the bar, guests can enjoy food, drinks, and live Cajun and Creole music from 7 PM to 10 PM on February 25th.
Also located near Opelousas, the Mardi Gras events at St. Landry Parish celebrate regional zydeco culture with fiddles and accordions. Join in with the trail ride and chicken chase, and enjoy live music.
Only a short distance away, Lafayette offers the traditional Courir de Mardi Gras event with costumes, parades, king cakes, and balls with a king and queen. The festivities this year begin as early as Valentine’s Day!
Also in Lafayette, Cajun Field is the site of Le Festival de Mardi Gras a Lafayette every year. This is a street festival with vendors, music, games, food, and other activities. There’s even a children’s parade for the little ones.
