General Motors is slowly doling out details on the newest edition of the Buick Encore crossover. The Encore has been the Buick brand’s best-selling model for three years in a row, and here at Sterling Buick GMC, we can’t wait to see the newest version.
At the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show, Buick unveiled two versions, the Encore and the Encore GX. Both will likely be available in the Chinese market, since China is the automaker’s largest market, but it looks as if the Encore GX will replace the regular Encore here in the U.S.
The new Encore GX has a wheelbase that’s about 3.4 inches longer than current generations of the Encore. It sits on the new VSS-F platform that GM plans to use on many of its future models to simplify manufacturing and engineering so that better-differentiated designs reach customers more quickly around the world.
GM says the 2020 Encore GX will arrive with an eighth-generation Ecotec engine and two transmission options: a nine-speed Hydra-Matic automatic or a CVT. Although GM didn’t provide specs for the Encore GX, it says this new model will be more efficient than the outgoing Encore.
It’s not clear yet when the 2020 Encore GX will arrive at dealerships, so stay tuned for more info!
